Why City Council?

As I was weighing the idea of a city council run, a lot of my friends and family asked, "Why would you want to run for city council?! Everyone will just complain to you all the time!"
Honestly, I hope you do complain to me all the time! I want to hear about your pot holes! My job as a City Council representative isn't to sweep into office and tell you what your problems are and how to fix them. It's not about me and my agenda. My job is to proactively seek out your perspective and input, listen intentionally, and hear what YOU think the solutions are. Then, I represent YOUR voice, interests, and proposed solutions in the conversations and decisions being made about the city. I can't promise everyone will get everything they want all the time; in fact, if we want to maintain economic security while preserving the character of our community, we are all going to have to give a little to make it work.
Our little town is changing, and there are some folks who are being left behind. I want to join city council because I want to ensure that we’re representing ALL Salidans. There are a lot of different populations in this town - multi-generational families and new transplants, business owners and workers, short term rental owners and housing insecure. There are populations that are segregated from the Salida that is visible - unhoused people, older adults, people with disabilities, people with mental health and substance use struggles. The perspective and input of each of those groups and many more are all threads in the fabric of this community, and they are all equally valuable. I intend to ensure that all these voices are represented and considered with equal weight in community conversations and decision making, building a Salida that works for everyone.
If you know me, I think you already know that you should not hesitate to tell me what you think, as you surely know I would not hesitate to do the same. :) If you don't know me, I look forward to the privilege and want you to know that I mean it very sincerely when I say that I am eager to understand your perspectives and input. Please reach out - we'll grab a coffee or a glass of wine or take a walk!
